Decoration Sunday

Ever invited people over to decorate your Christmas tree? Decoration Sunday is like that except hundreds come. The service schedule remains the same, and the work takes place during a slightly expanded Education Hour. We shorten the 9 am service a little and by 9:45 we’re ready to polish and clean, hang greens and wreaths, collate Christmas bulletins, make sandwiches for Martha’s Table and put up decorations.

There will also be music and refreshments to keep workers happy. While older children are invited to participate in the decorating and cleaning, there is a program for younger children in the Great Hall from 10-11 am. We’ll also practice carols for the Children’s Christmas Eve services. (Children five and under should be accompanied by an adult.) Please remember to bring cookies (that’s what the cookie tax is!) to pack with the sandwiches for Martha’s Table. Decoration Sunday activities end just before the 11:15 am eucharist in the church nave. Don’t be surprised if the vacuum cleaner is whisked away just as the prelude begins!

To see that decorating (and undecorating) go smoothly, there is a tree in the Common equipped with cards for jobs that need to be completed. Special job descriptions for children are on yellow cards.

Schedule: Fourth Sunday in Advent, 9 am – 11:15 am
