St. Columba's Chamber Orchestra

Primarily a string orchestra, with other instruments added as available, the chamber orchestra generally rehearses on Wednesdays, with additional rehearsals when there are special works performed with the choir. Two or three choral/orchestral works are presented each year in the context of church services. Past works have included Requiem by Fauré, a number of Bach cantatas, and Schubert and Mozart masses. A Dowd harpsichord, purchased in the summer of 1999, joins the orchestra in performances of early music. The orchestra enhances the congregational singing on festival occasions such as All Saints and St. Columba Day, and plays preludes occasionally at the 9 and 11:15 am services.

Schedule: Wednesdays, 8:15 – 10:00 pm
