Weekend Meals on Wheels
Consider volunteering two hours a month with St. Columba’s Meals on Wheels. We provide two teams once a month to IONA Senior Services’ Weekend Home-Delivered Meals Program in Northwest Washington. Volunteers typically work in teams of two (although more can go), and each team needs a car. Volunteers without transportation can be paired with a driver.
The recipients are persons 60 or older who are unable to acquire or prepare balanced meals for whatever reason—including permanent disability, need for recovery upon return from the hospital, lack of money, and lack of facilities for storing or preparing food. They are referred by IONA Social Services, by hospital social workers, by calling IONA themselves, or by family or friends.
This is an easy and rewarding outreach opportunity that provides not only physical sustenance, but also a friendly face for the homebound elderly.
Schedule: Second Saturdays, 10:00 am–12:00 pm
