STEP/I Have A Dream
(St. Columba's-Truesdell education partnership)

STEP/IHAD is St. Columba’s long–term commitment to building community in our city by working with the children and parents of the 1994 kindergarten class at Truesdell Elementary School. St. Columba’s made a promise to 73 children to support them through college in exchange for a promise that the children would participate in tutoring, life skills workshops, summer programs and sports programs. In 1998, STEP joined the I Have a Dream Foundation to support preparation and funding for post–secondary education.

The “children” are now college students. Volunteers serve in many capacities, as college mentors, as academic tutors, as chaperones and as role models. Check the STEP bulletin board in the hallway opposite Room 212 at St. Columba’s for opportunities with STEP/IHAD — after school or evening tutoring, Saturday program, summer internships, and scholarship fundraising.

Are you able to offer an internship to a STEP Dreamer this summer?
Dreamers are currently juniors and seniors in college and are looking for summer internships in the following areas:  fashion, merchandising, computer graphics, accounting, IT, video game design, international business and journalism.  Internships will be paid for by the St. C's STEP/I Have A Dream Program through the Dreamers' participation in the DC Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program.  If you can help, contact Susan Laing (301-785-6290).
