John Thomas
Adjunct Associate Rector, 2000-2007

John ThomasThe Rev. John Taliaferro Thomas is Chaplain of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland. He began serving as Adjunct Associate Rector at St. Columba’s since the summer of 2000, when he agreed to “help out” for two weeks. John continued to "help out" with Sunday liturgies, preaching, and occasionally teaching adult education classes on Wednesday nights.

A native of Athens, Georgia, John has a penchant for writing, teaching and storytelling. He was ordained in 1993, and has served in two other large parishes: Christ Church, Pensacola (1993–1996), and St. Luke’s, Atlanta (1996–1999). When not at St. Andrew’s or St. Columba’s, he may be found humbling himself on any number of local golf courses.

St. Columba’s is a family operation for the Thomases as John’s wife, Janice, is Pastoral Care Coordinator, son Sam is a graduate of St. Columba’s Nursery School, and daughter Emily is a regular in the Girl Choir. Henry Thomas, the family dog, owns a house in Bethesda, where he allows them to sleep and eat when not at St. C’s.
