St. Columba’s Nursery School:
General Information

St. Columba’s Nursery School is a haven for the unhurried child. We are a half-day program for children ages 3 to 5 serving parish and neighborhood families. Our morning program meets 8:45 – 11:45 am, Monday through Friday, and our afternoon program meets 12:45 – 3:30 pm, Tuesday through Friday.

We believe firmly that each child is unique and has an infinite capacity to learn and grow. Our developmentally based curriculum guides us in planning carefully structured environments and experiences and that help build the minds, bodies, and spirits of our students through active play.

Special features of the school include:

  • Two extensive and shaded playgrounds giving children plenty of room to develop physically, cognitively and socially
  • Small classes with experienced full-time teachers in each classboy paints dog
  • Twice-weekly music and creative movement instruction
  • Hands-on science lessons taught by a specialist and integrated into larger classroom themes
  • Inclusion of children with special needs
  • Annual developmental screenings for all students
  • Classroom pets other school animals
  • “Wise and Wonderful,” an intergenerational program
  • Parenting education courses
  • Active parents group

Admission seminars for parents of prospective students are held in January and February preceding fall enrollment.
