St. Columba's Episcopal Church

February 2017 Newsletter

February Newsletter: In the lead article of our February issue, the Rev. Ledlie Laughlin raises the question, ““Does our impulse to connect arise from fear or from love? Will connecting lead to deeper fear or deeper love?” and provides some thoughts and opportunities on how we can all "hold hands" during these uncertain times.

Other articles include:

- In “Lent, A Season of Reconciliation,” the Rev. Kate Heichler offers a rundown of all the special services and activities that St. Columbans will engage in Lent with “The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Homecoming” as a central focus. This article is followed by details regarding the Lenten Day of Reflection, Lenten Book Study Groups and Sunday Forum programming;

- Our Annual Elections insert starts on page 5, and provides profiles for all our candidates for senior and junior warden, vestry delegate and alternate delegates;

- “Heavenly Music Benefits Homeless” by the Rev. Kate Heichler, details plans for an upcoming concert featuring the dynamic choral group, "The Thirteen";

- "New To You is Back" by Courtney Hundley, heralds the return of St. Columba's beloved yard sale in May;

- “Thanksgivings” by Ginny Denning, tells the unique story of "Young Voices in Prison," a recent Sunday Forum program and Writing Workshop where parishioners learned about the impact of creative writing when used to awaken the creativity and lifegiving potential of incarcerated DC youth.

Plus! other monthly offerings of Calendar, Announcements, Transitions, Vestry Notes and The Columba Diary.
