Worship is the heart of our life at St. Columba’s, and that life continues all summer long. We come together to be refreshed, to renew our connection to God, to one another and to the world around us.

We welcome people of all ages, offering music of diverse styles and preaching that seeks to bring the Gospel to life. All Sunday morning services in the summertime take place in the Church Nave. (Large print bulletins, hearing amplification devices, children’s activity sheets and crayons are available.) Here’s the summer line-up:

8 am Eucharist in the Church Nave

This early service has a quiet and intimate style, celebrated without music but with a sermon.

9:15 am Eucharist for pre-school children and their families in the Church Nave

This family-friendly service offers a rich worship experience for pre-school children and their families. There is lively singing, and the children gather in front of the altar as a story-teller shares the gospel and message geared for children. The Holy Eucharist is celebrated with great joy. Attending this service during the summer can help children make the shift from the Great Hall worship space to experiencing the 9 am Eucharist in the Church Nave when they reach school-age in the fall.

10:30 am Eucharist in the Church Nave

This service of Holy Eucharist stays closer to the tradition of Anglican worship, with a relaxed summer flow. Good preaching, vibrant singing and deep prayer mark the last of our Sunday morning services in the church nave. Our pick-up choir, the Summer Singers support our music. (The Summer Singers meet for an informal practice at 9:45 am in the Music Room. All are invited.) During the 10:30 service children ages 3-8 are invited to go out for “Storytime” (an age-appropriate story with prayers based on the Gospel), and return at the Peace. This service lasts approximately 1 hour.

Live@5, a lively alternative Eucharist in the Great Hall

Live@5 is an alternative Eucharist with contemporary music and multimedia storytelling, held at 5 pm on specific Sundays during the year. It takes place in the Great Hall, where we gather in the round to worship, reflect on scripture and imagine the life God is calling us to live.

The service begins with lively singing and candle lighting. Then we share scripture stories through drama, music and video. We conclude by sharing God’s grace through the bread and wine of Holy Communion, before we are sent out (usually 45 minutes later) to live as Christ’s body in the world.

Live@5 services are scheduled for the fourth Sundays of the summer months: June 25 and July 23.
