Great Vigil of Easter We wait in the dark as the last verse of “Were you there?” is sung. We kindle the new fire of Easter and light the paschal candle and carry it in the procession to the church where we hear the chanted words of the Exultet with its announcement that God is at work in this mysterious night. All light tapers, and the service continues by candlelight with the dramatic stories of salvation history leading to the sermon. After the renewal of baptismal vows we hear the announcement that “Christ is Risen!” The lights are turned on to reveal the beauty of Easter adornment and all join in singing, “Jeus Christ is Risen Today,” led by the Ensemble Singers and handbell ringers. We move quickly to the first eucharist of Easter and a festive reception in the Common. The fast is over and the feast begins. Schedule: 7:00 pm, Saturday in Holy Week, in the Church.
