Frequently Asked Questions

What is the status of church facilities for events or activities during this period?
Our highest priority is the health, safety and well-being of our people, and in the face of COVID-19 coronavirus, we need to minimize social contact. Therefore:

  • All parish worship, programs and meetings will be held virtually, postponed or cancelled.
  • Outside groups who use our building must make other arrangements.

Are parish staff working?
Office personnel are all working from home on their normal schedules: Mon.-Thurs., 9 am-5 pm; Fri.: 9 am -1 pm, and clergy: Mon.-Thurs., 9 am-5 pm. All are monitoring their emails. Click here for a staff directory with their contact information.

Can I reach parish office by telephone?
When you call the parish office at 202.363.4119 during office hours, your call will be automatically forwarded to Annick Milde, our business office coordinator. If after hours, you may choose a staff member's extension to leave a message; they will receive your recorded message via email and will return your call during business hours.

Can I reach the parish office by mail?
St. Columba's will receive its mail on a daily basis via the locked mailbox by the parish office entrance. All payments will be processed on a regular basis. There will be no change in how you make your pledge payments.

Will worship services or special services be conducted during this period?
Clergy and program staff may choose to conduct services, prayer groups, or study sessions online. Click here for a schedule of online programs. We encourage all parishioners to “like” our Facebook page to participate in our "Facebook Live" programming. Not on Facebook? You can view the recorded sessions via video from our YouTube channel.

Will we continue to provide Water Ministry services to our neighbors in need?
Water Minister leaders are working on a plan to serve lunch to our guests while the church is closed. With no access to the church building, the plan is to provide a packaged, takeaway meal at our Butterworth St. entrance, on the days Water Ministry would normally be open. Assigned cooks will assemble packaged meals at home and deliver them to the church where guests can pick them up. There may be opportunities for parishioners to help with this effort. Stay tuned for an update.

What about pastoral visits?
For pastoral emergencies, please call 202-363-4119 to reach a member of the clergy. This is an important time for us to care for our people, but for everyone's well-being, clergy will use the utmost caution in deciding whether to make an in-person pastoral visit. Telephone calls, Facetime chats, and other apps and online platforms are great ways for us to stay connected during this time.

What resources are available for holding parish meetings?
Ministry leaders are encouraged to make use of Zoom video conferencing and Free Conference Call to hold their previously scheduled ministry meetings. Technical support on the use of these tools may arranged through your ministry staff liaison or by calling the parish office telephone number.
