Job Opportunity: Director of Development and Stewardship

St. Columba’s Episcopal Church seeks a full-time (hybrid) Director of Development and Stewardship to design and implement all aspects of congregational giving and to develop external funding sources and revenue through writing grants, maximizing the use of our property, and hosting special events and campaigns.

NATURE AND SCOPE
St. Columba’s is a church on a mission to live God’s love. We are “an inclusive and welcoming Christian community of all ages that encourages spiritual curiosity, celebrates children and youth, and embraces the world in the spirit of God’s justice and love.”

St. Columba’s is a large, multi-staff church with an engaged and very active congregation, an average Sunday attendance of 425 in person and 150 on line, and annual operating budget of $3.2 million. Currently, 560 households provide $2.6 million. With a separate budget of $2 million, we operate a nursery school for 100 children, 20% of whom have learning differences. Principal worship on Sunday is celebrated with all ages in four or five services in a variety of liturgical styles. We are committed to becoming an anti-racist church, operating a zero waste campus, partnering with others to end family homelessness in the District of Columbia, and we are currently hosting three Afghan refugee families. Many households have been - and continue to be - drawn to St. Columba’s vibrant ministries with and for children, youth, and their families. Across all ages, participation in small groups is increasingly the norm as we seek to equip one another to practice faith in our daily lives. We are developing a digital community among those who worship and participate with us online.

While participation in most churches is declining, life and ministry at St. Columba’s is dynamic. With a compelling vision, we’re making changes both small and large – driven by our own vision and plan, and in response to changes in the world and society around us. We seek to live into the future God has for us, and to incarnate our God-given potential as individuals and as a congregation. Visit our website columba.org.

The opposite of faith is not doubt, but certainty. ~ Anne Lamott

Joining a church doesn’t mean you don’t have big questions or doubts. Deciding to be part of a loving community of faith means you’re open to exploring and wrestling with those big questions and doubts. Most people here did not grow up in The Episcopal Church. Some have never been a member of any church. Many have a background in a different church or faith tradition. At St. Columba’s, there will be many opportunities to learn, ask questions, and get to know other pilgrims along the way. Our deepest hope is that everyone who steps through our doors knows they belong here.

Pledge Give Now Stock, IRA, Donor Advised & Planned Giving Member Log-in Christmas Offering/ Thanksgivings & Memorials

A pledge is a promise - a promise to give a certain amount over the course of the following year. We don’t expect you to fulfill your pledge in one lump gift. Many find they can give more when pledging and then giving incrementally over the course of the year.

Pledging before the start of each calendar year is critical for clergy and staff to develop an annual budget and plan to serve you and our wider community.

Why Give? God asks us to share our time, talent and treasure. A life of generosity is at the root of Christianity. The Bible encourages the tithe – or 10% of your annual income – and we encourage you to think about what a meaningful gift would be for you.

When you give to St. Columba’s you help fund our ministry in the community, our worship, and the staff that supports our community as we strive to Live God’s Love.

Our mission is funded by you – St. Columbans and other supporters.

Give Now

St. Columba’s is grateful for your generosity. We accepts gifts in the form of cash, checks, appreciated stocks, Charitable IRA Rollovers, Donor Advised Gifts, and matching gifts. If you would like to include us in your end-of-life charitable gift plans, we accept bequests, life income gifts, and gifts of special assets (real estate, closely held stock, life insurance).
