Forsaken and Forgiven: Jesus’ Death in Mark and Luke

February 20, 2022 @ 10:15 am - 11:00 am

All four New Testament Gospels describe the death of Jesus, but they do so in different ways. While places in our world may say that we value multiple voices and multiple accounts, we often don’t know what to do with them when there’s disagreement. Let’s consider what the Gospels of Mark and Luke have to say about Jesus’ death and how we can learn about situations of both difference and loss from them, as a preparation for Lent.

Dr. Laura Holmes serves as Professor of New Testament at Wesley Theological Seminary. She holds a B.A. (Religious Studies and History) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an M.Div. and a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. Her research interests include investigating how the New Testament Gospels talk about God and how their manner of speech might be instructive and challenging for theology and discipleship in the church today.
