Legos for Lent
March 9, 2022 @ 4:45 am
Legos for Lent is offered by St. Columba’s Children’s Ministry to offer children and families to explore a Christian theme during Lent. Sometimes Bible themes are selected (Miracles, Parables, the story of God’s people from Genesis through to the New Testament as presented in the Great Vigil of Easter Service); this year is a new theme – we are reading the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis.
Walk through the wardrobe and enter the exciting land of Narnia! Each week we will hear part of the story and then make Legos or drawings reflecting what we have heard!
All ages are welcome to read along and to participate!
We’ll meet Mr. Tumnus, the White Witch and of course, Aslan. We’ll walk through the wardrobe and eat Turkish Delight.
We’ll discover what wonders come to us when we are open and choose to do good in the world.
We’ll be gathering from 4:45-5:45pm on Wednesdays March 9, 16, 23, 30 and April 6, 2022.
What to expect from Legos from Lent:
- Arrive* at Legos for Lent or join the zoom and listen to a story and wonder and share about the story. (*in person space is limited and masks are required)
- Kids are then free to play with Legos and create something that helps them respond to something in the story – it may be narrative (mini figures sitting at a long table for the last supper) or figurative ( a giant loaf of bread).
- If kids prefer not to work with Legos there are also paper, crayons and markers available for drawing.
- Conversation continues while kids are working – sometimes about the theme, sometimes total non sequiturs!
- When they are done, they write or dictate a description and display their creation on the wooden wall in the Common.
