Environment Committee
The St. Columba’s Environment Committee was formed by a small group of parishioners in 2001 to live God’s love through creation care at church, at home and in community guided by our faith and St. Columba’s strategic objectives.

We have three main objectives: understand how our faith calls us to be stewards of God’s creation, encourage the church and our fellow parishioners to lighten our footprint on the Earth, and take direct action to address pressing environmental challenges in the larger community.
We meet quarterly in person. We also invite you to join in our activities, such as:
- Educational forums, workshops, and green tips for parishioners
- Quarterly Faith Hikes to celebrate the wonder of God’s grace and nature as a sacred space
- Support of continued reduction of St. Columba’s environmental and climate impact through expanded use of solar panels and renewable energy sourced electricity, waste reduction at church with composting and recycling, and using more native plants on church property
- Environmental advocacy in partnership with the Washington Interfaith Network for more energy efficient and affordable housing, climate justice, and pollution prevention
- Support of Sustainable Villages Honduras through our annual Mother’s Day plant sale
