Vestry's Message
Dear Fellow Parishioners,
There is abundant reason for hope. St. Columba’s is blessed to be a dynamic community, living God’s love together. It’s inspiring to see the ways our parishioners, clergy, staff, and lay leaders have embraced the call to bring God’s love to the world.
Our community emerged from the challenges of the past year stronger than ever. Despite lockdowns and social distancing, Columbans connected and cared for one another through fellowship groups, prayer groups, youth group and more. Ministries evolved to meet the needs of the moment with creativity and flexibility. All along the way, we were fed spiritually by our wonderful clergy and staff who made virtual and in-person services rich and beautiful, with humor and heart.
Columbans aided our ending family homeless program with food, school supplies, housing assistance, and a weekly tutoring program. We made over 160 hot meals through Loaves and Fishes, 110 meals for the Grate Patrol, and twice weekly snack-bags for guests at Friendship Place. And together in hope we will meet the challenges of becoming an anti-racist church, supporting our Afghan brothers and sisters, and ending family homelessness in the District.
We are humbled and inspired by the generosity of spirit we have witnessed. No wonder we look forward in hope!
Pledges are the largest source of income for St. Columba's and are critical for the vitality of the church. The current annual budget of $3.2 million supports our ministries, pays staff and clergy, maintains our building, and allows us to respond to challenging times. During last year's pledge campaign, when not all were able to give due to the difficult situation with the pandemic, 595 households pledged, and 41% of those households increased their pledge by an average of 17%. We hope you will join us this year and be as generous as you are able.
Your pledge will ensure that St. Columba's remains a vibrant community and a light to the world.
Join us. Together we can do amazing things.
Peace,
Abigail Gorman, Senior Warden
